How it works
Four steps, settled before the surrender date
Most of the work is deciding, not storing: what may move, how long to rent for, and who can act while the renter is away.

01
The attorney decides what moves
Before anything comes here, the client and the attorney settle what is free to move. Anything that is, or may be, part of the case stays where counsel says. We would rather wait a week than store the wrong thing.

02
Identified intake, signed inventory
The renter is identified against government-issued photo ID. Every item is listed on a signed inventory, with serial numbers where they exist. The renter keeps a copy and can give one to the attorney and the family.

03
Rent for the whole term
Choose a term that covers the expected absence with room to spare. Terms of 3 to 5 years carry 20% off each year's rent; terms of 5 years or more carry 25%. A paid-up box does not depend on anyone remembering a renewal.

04
One named person can act
The rental agreement says who may enter: a joint renter, or a trust or company the renter controls. Every visit is identified and logged. Whether an agent under a power of attorney can enter: TODO_FACT: does Florida Intervault accept a durable POA agent, and what must the agent show?
The parts of a long absence
The intake visit
- What does the renter bring?
- Government-issued photo ID, the items, and any serial numbers, appraisals or titles for them. If a trust or company will rent the box, the papers showing who may act for it.
- Can the attorney or family attend intake?
- TODO_FACT: may an attorney or family member be present at intake? The renter is the one identified and the one who signs the inventory.
- How long does intake take?
- TODO_FACT: typical intake time. Calling first means the box size and the term are settled before the visit.
Settle it before the date, not after.
A short call is usually enough to know whether a box is the right answer. If it is not, we will say so. Attorneys and family members are welcome to call on a client's behalf.
