Prepaid multi-year terms
Pay for the whole stay before it starts
Annual rent is a small bill that someone has to pay every single year. Over a long sentence, that someone is the weak point. A multi-year term sets the price for the whole stay.

A box can be lost to a bill nobody paid. The card on file expires. The relative who promised to pay moves. The reminder goes to an address where nobody lives anymore. None of it is anyone's fault, and all of it happens slowly.
A term chosen to match the sentence takes that bill out of other people's hands. Rent here runs from $795 a year for the smallest box, 3 × 5 × 24 inches, to $12,500 a year for the largest, across eight sizes. On a rental of three to five years, each year's rent is 20% lower. On a longer rental, it is 25% lower. Exactly five years: TODO_FACT: does a 5-year term get 20% or 25% off?
In numbers: the $795 box on a three-year term is $636 a year, which is $1,908 for the three years. Whether that is paid in full on the first day is TODO_FACT: are multi-year terms paid in full up front?. Compare it with what can happen when rent stops, in if the rent lapses, and with the full size list on pricing.
Release dates move, and not always in the direction anyone expected. Before you choose a length, ask what happens to prepaid rent if the box is closed early: TODO_FACT: refund or credit on prepaid rent if a box closes early?. Your attorney can tell you how fixed the date is. Planning before a sentence starts covers the rest of the calendar.
What matters
- 20% off each year's rent on rentals of three to five years.
- 25% off each year's rent on rentals longer than five years.
- The $795 box on a three-year term is $636 a year, $1,908 in all.
- Match the term to the date your attorney expects, with some margin.
- Ask what happens to prepaid rent if the box closes early, before you pay.
How we handle it
- Eight box sizes, from $795 to $12,500 a year before any term discount.
- How a multi-year term is paid: TODO_FACT: paid in full up front, or yearly at the discounted rate?
- A box can be rented by one person, jointly, or in the name of a trust or company.
- Contents insurance is not part of rent. It is arranged separately against a declared value.
Where we stop
A prepaid term changes the bill, not the rules. We still honour valid warrants, subpoenas and court orders, and we still log every visit.
Short answers
- Is the discount applied to every year or only the first?
- Every year. The discount comes off each year's rent for the length of the term.
- Can I start on one year and extend to a longer term later?
- TODO_FACT: can a one-year rental be converted to a discounted multi-year term later?
- Is a bigger box worth it on a long term?
- Only if the contents need it. Rent is set by box size and the discount is a percentage, so a larger box saves more dollars but still costs more in total.
